The harbour in Rethyymno dates back to the 16th century when the Venetian conquerors of Crete decided to establish a commercial port and town here as an intermediate point between Heraklion and Chania .

Zen Looks Down

It's Thursday evening in London and it is raining again.

Jennifer Charles, Zen to her friends, is a climbing instructor and personal fitness trainer. She hates being in the city but is earning some much needed extra cash helping on the video shoot for a boy-band. The phone call she is about to receive will bring a totally unexpected offer that could set her up for life.

Elemental, a modern independent power generating company, is experiencing computer problems. IT Forensics and Business Continuity analyst Brian Rockham is called in to investigate. Brian knows that his job is considered boring, even by accountants, but he also knows that he is very good at what he does. What he is about to discover could bring him more excitement than he can cope with.

Freelance business journalist Michelle Fieldman is counting down the days until her divorce is finalised. The press conference she is covering ended some time ago, but she hasn't moved from her seat. She doesn't want to go back to an empty flat that she can't bring herself to call home. The conversation she is just about to overhear could set her on the trail of the biggest scoop of her career.

On a quiet side street just south of the Thames, Paul Jones is watching the clouds overhead. The engine of his delivery van is running and the driver's door is open. It is cold and wet lying on the pavement but he just can't seem to get up. The gaping wound on the back of his head is about to bring an end to his plans for a gap year travelling the world. It is going to bring an end to all of his plans.
